July 30, 2009

Well, I do believe the mystery bird has been resolved, well to the best of what I can figure. I am thinking he is just an immature male house finch that just hasnt gotten his stripes yet. Kind of like a dalmation not getting its spots yet hehee. He actually came to visit today.

I figured I would try something different, I am trying to keep a written journal each day of the birds that visit the yard and the animals that I watch daily and post about them every day on here and any good or new pics I get, I will post them as well.

So for today....
I had posted a while back about having 2 baby mockingbirds, one of which only had one eye, well unfortunately he has disappeared, but there is still one left and he is extremely noisy. He is always screaming at mama to feed him. You hear him all day long and she never takes him more than one house away from my house. He had hatched in my back yard. And you can always tell when she's about to feed him because he gets louder and faster with his squawking hehee I havent been able to get any pictures of them yet really, need a lot better camera for that.

Here is a list of my visiting birds for today that I have seen myself.

There was a new male and female hummingbird today, they are different from my regular hummingbirds, got a picture of the female as you can see below.
Of course the female house finches and female house sparrows.
My chickadee of course, my favorite little guy. He cracks me up every day.
My male cardinal came to visit a few times.
The young female hummingbird that chases everybody away and I have posted pics of her before came by a few times to visit.
And the no longer mystery bird came to visit as well.
And I have an another mystery bird, that I am not sure what he is, I am thinking a male house sparrow, but according to my books, they have a gray cap, but this guy has a black cap, so not sure what to think, and I cant seem to get a picture of him. Going to keep trying though.

Oh and I had another bird that I did not know what he was, posted a picture of him in a bird forum im in, and someone was able to help me identify him as a brown-headed nuthatch. It was driving me nuts trying to identify him, he's still immature and thats why I couldnt figure him out. I have also posted a picture of him as well.

This is my new little hummingbird, but she was a lot lighter green outside than she is in this picture.

This was the second mystery bird, that was identified as a brown-headed nuthatch. He is still young I think as he doesnt have the distinct markings yet, but he does most definitely match the description of a juvenile. So thankful to the one who identified him for me at Birdboard forum.
